HIV looks and feels like many common viral and bacterial sicknesses and is often misdiagnosed. In the first stage of HIV infection, feverish illnesses may occur and you may test negative for HIV (if tested less than 3 months after infection). Even if you tested negative during the early stages of the infection, you may have the virus and can infect others. If you experience or have experienced any of the common illnesses that are listed on the Medical Terminology page, and especially when they are prolonged, it is important to get tested for HIV.
